New Single Release

I’ve dropped another New Release! “By The Sea, (Remix),” is actually a retooled and updated version of an earlier, badly recorded arrangement. It even has a video! It’s under a new collection title called “Drop Note Theory“.

The Tyenote Series

Just One Quick Minute

It’s roughly a one minute long (sometimes a tad longer), online series, showcasing original concepts and compositions, some of which are made up right there on the spot.

This one-ish minute concept addresses, with respect, the fleetness of our precious time while being mindful to accommodate our abbreviated attention span.

Just A Little Bit Longer

True to its title, this series adheres to the same basic concept of “Just One Quick Minute” except for one feature: the tunes run a bit too long to fit the one-ish minute parameters. But longer pieces allow for more exploratory and developed works.

Leaving it up to Chance

When tunes pop into my head and run around, I never really know how they’ll come out or how they’ll be received. Sometimes, they turn out pretty good. Other times, not so much. You never know what you’re going to get. It’s hit or miss. There’s even a slight chance that you might hear something that sounds like it could qualify to be on Jimmy Fallon’s “Do Not Play List” 😳.

Currently, there’s no order to when one or the other series will be posted. New videos will appear roughly every week, give or take a few days - or in some cases, a few weeks. As an independent artist, I realize I am not beholden to schedules and deadlines outside of those I set for myself whenever I want or feel the need. Couple that with the amateur, shoestring budget production and demanding full time job, independence as an artist becomes a luxury onto itself. This isn’t to say that this endeavor is pursued without firm ambition to evolve and improve through trial and error, to up mixing, mastering and production skills, develop a more diverse product and upgrade performance as well as seek better options and more promising opportunities. But reality weighs into deliberations, expectations and results.

In the meantime, for the foreseeable future, the setting will remain the same cozy, unremarkable location with which some of you are so familiar.

Confusion

The concept behind this piece needs no explanation. The title speaks for itself. So if you’re experiencing or have recently experienced, any state of conflict or confusion, you’ve got the idea and any analysis you come up with would be correct.

Now to feed our collective music theory nerdiness:

Confusion” uses the ancient E-Phrygian Modal Scale throughout its composition. Phrygian Scales are major scales that are believed to have emerged from the Ancient Greeks. Phrygian Scales are good for weaving exotic sounds into intricate compositions with hypnotic elements. The Phrygian Scale along with the Dorian, Lydian and Mixolydian Scales are believed to have been identified and named by the Greek philosopher, Aristonexus, who wrote the “Elements Harmonica” where they first were named way back about 2300 years ago.

The objective for using the E-Phrygian Modal for me in this composition, was to express notationally and give sound to Confusion - or the feeling of being confused. It’s what it sounds like to me and maybe could sound similar or different to you and other people. At least this is my version of it and that is doomed to sound academically experimental- and (made up word) “composery”.
